/imagine Life. "Mythological Symbolim"
Coming soon.
"This is an important point about symbols: they do not refer to historical events; they refer through historical events to spiritual or psychological principles and powers that are of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and that are everywhere."
-Joseph Campbell.
The core building stones of our dreams and subconscious experiences are made out of (mythological) symbols. Throughout human history, symbols have been mined by sages, artists and the wise and have been incorporated in stories that bind their cultures together. Although there are many different cultures, many mythological symbols are shared throughout all living human beings, though not always having the same psychological meaning. For example, although the symbol of the dragon appears in almost all cultures, they can have profoundly different meanings (from success and prosperity in one culture, to danger and dark powers in the other).
In this study, ‘ImagineLife’ will explore the mythological symbolism used by today's most sophisticated neural networks. Why does Midjourney, for example, make disproportionate use of the image of inflated balloons? Or why does it show underwater creatures when a user prompts about the deeper layers of human life?
Let’s see if we can find a dragon within, and find out what it tries to convey to us.
